The fifth issue of Green Horizon Quarterly's (GHQ) print edition is now available!

The fifth issue of Green Horizon Quarterly's (GHQ) print edition is now available. The lead article, "What American Progressives Left Undone for Three Decades and Now Reap the Whirlwind in 2004", by John Rensenbrink, challenges the whole sweep of American progressive movements. The article looks back at the last three decades of progressive efforts and action. It finds that their efforts and action have not affected or changed the prevailing power structure, in fact the power structure is more entrenched and menacing than ever. Something has been missing. Something has been left undone. Please order your copy of Green Horizon Quarterly #5 by clicking on to Subscribe.

Other pertinent articles in #5 of GHQ:

****Kyoto Fall Out: A Tale of Two Countries -- Elizabeth May, Executive Director of Canada's Sierra Club, writes that "the Kyoto Protocol is the most misunderstood and maligned international treaty in history." She mainly faults the Bush regime for this, that no one told Americans the truth, and points out that not even the big U.S. environmental groups told the Americans the truth.

****A leading American economist, Robin Hahnel, has an engaging article comparing and contrasting community economics (a leading Green Party value) and participatory economics. While agreeing that the two have much in common, he believes that participatory economics is the way to go. Find out why!

****Mark Dunau ran a spirited campaign for the United States Senate in New York. A major but largely un-noticed feature of U.S. society surfaced for him, the fact that there are 20 million self-employed people in the United States! A larger number than all the labor union memberships combined! They can be, and will likely become, an influential political force, he argues, and points out the issues that are near and dear to the self-employed. Read all about it!

****Two articles by young people, Dan Newman and Julia Judson-Rea insist that actual experience with nature is desperately needed, that intellectual analysis and lectures are not nearly enough and, by themselves, may just simply increase people's sense of separation from the natural world. Ecological education rooted in the direct experience and study of nature and nature's ways are needed in the schools. Very inspiring and thought provoking.

****Ever think about finding better and better ways to live simply upon the earth? Read Liz Walker's exciting account of transcending cars in Ithaca's eco-village community.

****GHQ #5 features poems by Ted Becker, Art Goodtimes and James Rensenbrink

****Jack Uhrich goes deep into the actual history and experience of the Green Party in New Mexico and asks fundamental questions about Green Party political strategy. This is well worth a read and much pondering.

****Hersch Sternlieb, with tongue in cheek, writes a plausible and hilarious memo by Condaleeza Rice to President Bush that purportedly was written one month prior to nine/eleven.

****Ellen LaConte celebrates a hero of (direct) democracy Lloyd Wells. Inspiring!
