Togetherness Day by Herschel Sternlieb
It was Togetherness Day at the Palace and King Bushy Tushy was radiating good will and cheer as he welcomed all the invited guests to share a little of his compassionate glue. He tried joining a Maine welfare mom to a Texas oil millionaire but they didn't stick. Then he glued a Right to Life preacher to a Pro-Choice career-girl and they fell apart immediately. He glued a gated- community dweller to a homeless shelter user and after 10 seconds they fell apart. He tried to attach Greed to Need and they just wouldn't adhere to one another. Doves wouldn't stick to well-armed hawks.. In desperation he changed his sticky formula and tried it on pedantic liars and taciturn ignoramuses. He was pleased to see that it worked in the presence of violence, but since he wasn't in possession of a suitable foe, they remained unattached.. Then as a last resort he glued conservative Republicans to conservative Democrats and lo and behold, they stuck. And Bushy Tushy proclaimed Togetherness Day a great success.
